The tips provided by Dirk Durham below will have you using our External Reed Cow Calls in no time!&#xA0; Getting Started:&#xA0; 1. Grab ahold of the call, and rotate the call so that the exposed reed/toneboard is facing towards the top of your mouth. 2. Cover your teeth with your lips, and place your lips on the tone board while biting hard to create a seal!&#xA0; 3. Find the &quot;sweet spot&quot; by putting some air pressure to the call. You should not be looking to blow extremely hard--we&apos;re not blowing up an air mattress after all. Just blow a bit of air over the call, slightly more than you would typically use when blowing an elk diaphragm call. You should hear a high pitch &quot;mew&quot; type sound! If you don&apos;t hear a sound right away, that&apos;s okay--experiment by placing your lips at different locations on the tone-board of the call and over the reed.&#xA0; 5. Once you&apos;ve located the &quot;sweet spot&quot; on the call, adjust the location of the small rubber band over the reed/tone-board of the call. You will want this rubber band to sit at the location where your lips stop once you&apos;ve located the &quot;sweet spot&quot; of the call. This serves as a place marker on the call, and allows your calls to be repeatable each time you pick up the call!&#xA0; 6. First, we wanted to add value with new features like the Easy Bugler mouthpiece&#x2014;only available before in our metal tube&#x2014;and the flared mouthpiece for diaphragm users. We also added a neoprene sleeve with an integrated lanyard. Neoprene&#x2019;s important because it quiets the tube without affecting the sound quality, which helps us achieve the balance of being both loud and clear.The Unleashed V2 is smaller and quieter than our larger tubes like the Unleashed and Renegade, but it still packs the same volume and clarity. The neoprene sleeve helps dampen noise without compromising on the resonant frequencies elk make, especially those 1800-1900 Hz sounds that help your call carry further. Built to Last.</h2>About two years ago, we set out to build something special&#x2014;something that took everything we knew about bugle tubes and elevated it with the best materials available. The goal? A tube that was ultra-lightweight without sacrificing the volume, back pressure, and sound quality that Phelps bugle tubes are known for.<h3 data-start="420" data-end="437" id="the-process">The Process</h3>The first prototype? Not quite it. We started with a 35% emulsified carbon blend&#x2014;basically, powdered carbon mixed with plastic and blow-molded like our standard plastic tubes. But it came out too flexible. Sound and weight were almost identical to plastic, so back to the drawing board we went.That led us to version two: a rolled carbon cloth design, finished in high-gloss polyurethane. We used a T300 carbon weave, not for structural load but to give it the rigidity and toughness needed for calling elk. This version rivals the rigidity of our metal tubes&#x2014;and honestly, it might even be tougher.<h3 data-start="1057" data-end="1089" id="premium-feel-proven-shape">Premium Feel, Proven Shape</h3>This tube shares the same shape as our trusted metal tube, but at half the weight&#x2014;just 6.5 ounces. It delivers incredible back pressure and performs beautifully with both our Flared Mouthpiece and EZ Bugler Mouthpiece. Inside, we added a latex bladder system for a smooth, shard-free interior, which translates into clean, consistent sound.<h3 data-start="1456" data-end="1484" id="why-the-glossy-finish">Why the Glossy Finish?</h3>Yes, we tested a matte finish. But during field testing, we found this tube already carries a bit of its own noise if it bumps against rocks or trees. The matte didn&#x2019;t offer much advantage. Since we cover it with a 1mm neoprene sleeve anyway, we stuck with a polyurethane high-gloss finish&#x2014;it looks great, and performs even better.We also added our custom-designed Carbon Black camo created with layered blacks and grays over a carbon weave.
